Acclaimed throughout the musical world in a career spanning over forty
years. He was one of the world's best known British singers to make an
international career.
In 1998 an award to celebrate Richard Lewis was created, generously
endowed by the eminent pathologist Dr Jean Shanks.
The Richard Lewis / Jean Shanks Award is now one of the most
prestigious prizes for young singers.
