Due to the Covid restriction in London during March 2020 the normal award did not place.
Because the preliminary heats had taken place prior to the pandemic, it was decided that the 10 finalists, who including pianists entering the Brenda Webb Piano Award and singers, would be given £2,000 each instead.
"We saw that it was very difficult for all these singers who, due to Covid, could not sing anywhere and therefore we wanted to help them financially get through the lockdown that had just started at the time," says Elizabeth Muir Lewis, founder of the Richard Lewis/Jean Shanks Trust.
"But I hope that next year we will able to return to a normal public recital-based attendance event."
